My friend visited me a couple of weeks ago, and at first, we just did some catching up.

Actually, there was some ready-made stuff in the fridge.

But I decided to cook a meal for him/her coz he/she was my special guest.

ingredients原料

So we went to a grocery store/a supermarket and bought lots of stuff.

meats like pork,beef,lamb,chicken

vegetables like tomatoes,onions,potatoes,broccoli[ˈbrɔkəli:]西兰花

steamed broccoli清蒸西兰花，green peppers灯笼椒，eggplants茄子

carrots胡萝卜，mushrooms蘑菇，cucumbers黄瓜，spinach [ˈspɪnɪtʃ]菠菜，asparagus [əˈspærəɡəs]芦笋

seafood like shrimp,lobster,tuna,salmon,snapper

less bones, unappetizing影响食欲

We went back to my place.

洗菜

rinsed all the stuff(用水冲洗菜不用water)

切菜

sliced the tomatoes and cucumbers 切片儿

peeled the carrots削皮儿

chopped some broccoli into chunks 切块儿

shredded the pork 切丝儿 = cut the pork into fine strips

diced an onion 切丁儿 = cut the onion into cubes

做沙拉

mixed the cucumber and tomato in a salad bowl

烤蛋糕 baked a cake

打鸡蛋

break/crack an egg 鸡蛋壳打破的动作

beat/whip eggs 鸡蛋在碗里面打匀的过程

做菜方法

lit the burner(点燃gas stove燃气灶上的加热器)

boiled水煮 and steamed清蒸the vegetables 国外吃蔬菜经常吃salad或者清蒸

stir-fried炒 the onion with the ground beef切碎的牛肉in a frying pan煎锅，中国的圆底铁锅wok

deep-fried油炸the fish fillets鱼片

braised the pork红烧肉

grilled the shrimp and the fillets (grill像国内的烤串儿)

tossed in a handful of spices/herbs 放调料

sprinkled the salt    撒盐

cooked it on high heat=cooked it over a high flame用大火，low flame小火

When it started to boil煮沸，...

I turned down 调低the heat and let it simmer for like 10 minutes.

When the meat was brown, I turned off the burner.

saute 'səutei 煎   saute the chicken

I put some noodle into the boiling water and boiled it until it was tender.(面条软了)

And then I ladled 用那种很长的大勺子 some sauce over the noodle.

I poured some dressing沙拉和pizza的调料on the salad.

吃饭

My friend set the table.放餐具

served the dished端菜

We just helped ourselves to the food.

I made some coffee with the coffee maker.

After the main course, we had some ice cream as dessert.饭后甜点

We chatted over the meal.

He/She told me a whole bunch of funny things and they really cracked me up.让我笑个不停。

吃完饭

We took the serving dishes off the table.

And...cleared the table=wiped the table off.

Put the leftovers in the fridge.剩菜放冰箱

Really memorable。很值得回忆。

marinate the meat把肉腌一下

chopped up the vegetables切菜

mixed them into a paste和在一起and that would be the stuffing馅儿

mixed the flour面粉with water

and kneaded the dough揉面团

we rolled out the wraps擀皮儿

wrapped the stuffing包起来

put the dumplings into boiling water

ladled them out into bowls
