Gareth Morgan lives in New Zealand.  He’s a businessman and environmentalist.  He has a plan
to protect the unique native wild birds there.  This is a good idea, you would think, but his plan
has made a lot of New Zealanders upset with him.  Why?  Morgan thinks cats are a threat to the
birds.  He set up a website called “Cats to Go”.  He is asking cat owners to keep their cats
indoors and when their pets die, not to replace them with new ones.  However, New
Zealanders are famous for their love for their feline pets.  So you can see, cat owners are not
happy with Morgan’s plan.  Some cat owners say that cats might even be good for the birds
because cats catch rodents that feed on bird eggs.
